Most Western guys I know married to a Filipina are very happy. Between them, there are some very beautiful women. I shan’t pretend everything in the garden is rosy though; I also know a few who regret the whole thing.
You know, with a bit of prior knowledge and common sense, you can avoid a bad experience.
Sadly, I have seen marriages only last days... I'm often left wondering how the man ever thought it would work in the first place. And of course, someone will always wind up as scam bait.
Golden rule: If something seems to good to be true... it probably is to good to be true. If you're sixty plus and overweight with a twenty year old Filipina that looks like a Wowowee dancer... she is not with you because she loves you!
1: Age.
Twenty one or over to be able to apply for settlement in many countries including the UK. Personally, I think you could have home sickness problems if she is under twenty five and still living with her family.
The ideal age gap seems to be between ten and fifteen years. So if you're fifty, a Filipina in her mid to late thirties is a good choice. Most of the relationship problems I encounter are when the age gap is twenty years plus or the Filipina is too immature.
2: Marital Status.
Is she legally free to marry? If you've jumped straight here from a Search Engine, read this article How to aviod the Annulment and Adultery trap.
3: Children.
Any Filipina under thirty five is likely to want a child with her new husband very quickly. Are you ready to have children? Is your income sufficient to support a family?
Of course, she may already have children which presents a very different set of challenges. Unless a child is very young, it's common practise for the mother to relocate first and once settled, apply for the child/children to join her. You will have to deal with a Filipina trying to settle in a new country without her children.. I hope you're patient.
Children under ten settle quickly, even if they can't speak English well. Teenagers are a different story!
You need to be aware, if the natural father is still supporting or seeing the children, there could be a visa problem.
4: Relocation
There is a misconception all Filipinas marry Westerners to escape the Philippines. Not so. Does she want to relocate? If she's not sure, I'd walk away at the start.
To be honest, this is fundamental stuff but it's amazing how many guys actually start a relationship with a Filipina who is totally incompatible... then wonder why it doesn't work out. More often than not, they've met on a Social Networking site or Chatroom. Of course politeness prevents you asking the right questions at the start and by the time the all the 'cards are on the table'. it's too late, you're in love!
Without doubt, the safest place to meet a Filipina is a reputable Dating Website. One of the best, FilipinaCupid.com… has all this information plus more on the members profile. All the cards are on the table even before you've made contact.
